President Claudia Sheinbaum reported this Friday that the “pause” imposed by AMLO with the US ambassador Ken Salazar ended, but established guidelines, since now communication will be through the foreign ministry.

“A series of, let’s say, general guidelines were established, because sometimes the ambassador usually calls a secretary, another secretary, another secretary, so now we told him: ‘Well, if you want to touch on an issue related to the Ministry of Energy because there are American businessmen interested in investing and want to know the availability, through the Foreign Ministry,’ the president said in her morning press conference.

“They were some of the guidelines that were established yesterday and that orders the relationship in a very important way,” he added.

Sheinbaum reported that after a meeting between Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente and Ken Salazar, the “pause” established by the former president due to Washington’s criticism of the recent judicial reform would end.

The bilateral relationship between Mexico and the United States has experienced ups and downs, such as the criticism launched by AMLO of the United States’ anti-drug policy and American concern about the controversial judicial reform that seeks the election of judges by popular vote.

Last week Sheinbaum and President Joe Biden held their first telephone conversation since the Mexican president took office, in which they discussed “bilateral cooperation in economic, cultural and commercial matters.”

Foreign Minister De la Fuente explained on Wednesday that President Sheinbaum has asked to follow up on these “high political level” conversations soon.
