The work of the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges will return to bookstores in Latin America on January 22 from the Alfaguara publishing house, as a prelude to the celebration of the 40th anniversary of his death on June 14, 2026, the literary label announced this Tuesday.

In a statement, the publisher reported that it will begin publishing the work of the Argentine writer that day, simultaneously in Spain and Latin America, with the launch of his stories, essays and complete poetry.

After the first release, ‘The Aleph’, ‘The Brodie Report’ and ‘The Tango’ will be published in June 2026, in addition to a volume of unpublished conferences.

And in November ‘Fictions’, ‘Universal History of Infamy’, ‘The Gold of the Tigers’ and ‘Course in English and North American Literature’ will arrive on the label.

All titles will be published simultaneously on Alfaguara in Latin America, with the exception of Argentina, where its books will continue to appear on the Sudamericana imprint.

The relevance of Borges, the literary richness of his work and his influence on other authors transcends the limits of his time.

His work will be relaunched in all formats and different activities and initiatives will be organized throughout the year to celebrate one of the greatest and most influential contemporary writers in universal literature, Alfaguara announces.

The stories of Jorge Luis Borges constitute one of the fundamental chapters of 20th century literature because they are a form of intellectual and aesthetic exploration in which the rigor of construction and metaphysical invention, erudition and enigma, thought and fable coexist.

This volume brings together, in chronological order, all the books of his stories, tracing the complete map of a work that redefined the borders between philosophy and fiction.

The nine books collected in this volume, ‘Inquisitions’, ‘The Size of My Hope’, ‘The Language of the Argentines’, ‘Evaristo Carriego’, ‘Discussion, ‘History of Eternity’, ‘Other Inquisitions’, ‘Seven Nights’ and ‘Nine Dantean Essays’, cover Borges’ career as an essayist who turns criticism into a form of creation and scholarship into art.
