The Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) supported the approval of tariffs on Asian products because they shield and safeguard the Mexican industry from harmful international trade practices.
“The concerns (of the industry) were collected and valued, which translates into decisions that safeguard national production against harmful international trade practices,” stated the organization directed by Alejandro Malagón Barragán.
Industrialists supported the approval of reforms to various tariff sections of the Tariff of the Law of General Import and Export Taxes (LIGIE) approved by the Chamber of Deputies and the Chamber of Senators.

“These modifications imply specific adjustments in multiple tariff sections of said Law, aimed at strengthening the regulatory framework for foreign trade,” Concamin stated.
He added that the modifications are the result of a constructive, permanent and open dialogue with the Ministry of Economy and legislators, and represent an important step to strengthen the national industry through an active industrial policy.
He said that from the beginning of the legislative discussion, he worked with authorities and legislators, pointing out concerns and proposals from the industrial sectors.
“The approved reforms reflect an industrial policy consistent with the country’s needs, aimed at consolidating key production chains and promoting greater national content in strategic sectors,” he stated.
He added that the reforms are aligned with the objectives set out in Plan Mexico, which seeks to consolidate a more solid economic environment and reduce dependence on imports that could put local production at risk.
Concamin reiterated its willingness to continue with the technical analysis of the implementation of these reforms and noted that, if future adjustments are required, the industry and authorities will have the necessary time to carry them out in an orderly and effective manner.
