The Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur) said that none of its representatives will participate in activities of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), since this last agency prioritizes particular interests above the common business good.

“We cannot endorse closed structures (of the CCE), which prioritize particular interests above the common business good,” said the agency led by Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano.

“As long as respect for democratic principles, the inclusion and equitable representation of founding agencies are not guaranteed, no representative of this Confederation will participate in CCE activities, as today April 11 that we do not attend the CCE Council,” he said.

On April 4, the CCE suspended Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, and the Concanaco Servytur attributed it to the support made by the representative to the Infonavit reform.

The CCE reported that the affiliates and members of the Concanaco Servytur are still part of the Council.

“The recent unanimous decision to provisionally suspend the participation of its president, Octavio de la Torre, in our Executive Commission does not imply in any way the exclusion of the agency, its business community or its members, who remain a fundamental part of the business ecosystem they represent,” said the CCE.

He added that he respects the diversity of opinions around public policies, since as an agency his responsibility is to ensure that dialogue and business representation are developed within a consensus framework, aligned with the principles and agreements of the business body.

Juan José Sierra Álvarez, president of the Patronal Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex), said that the temporal suspension of Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano was to violate the statutes of the CCE.

On April 8, the National Council of Concanaco Servytur decided to pause its participation in the CCE.

“(The pause) responds to the lack of respect for fundamental principles of business democratic life, such as inclusion, the plurality of ideas, respect for the autonomy of each founding organization and alternation in power,” recalled the Concanaco Servytur.

He assured that the pronouncement made by the CCE reflects an ignorance of the nature and operation of the Concanaco Servytur, which acts under collegiate, democratic schemes and strictly attached to the law.

“We reaffirm that our decisions do not obey personal interests, but to the legitimate mandate of representing the Commerce, Services and Tourism sector with responsibility and vision of the future,” said the Concanaco Servytur.

“As an obligatory consultation body of the Mexican State, our actions are focused on strengthening dialogue with the three levels of government and contributing to national economic development,” he said.

“State calls are autonomous associations without legal or statutory link with the National CCE, so” their decisions do not compromise this confederation or its affiliated chambers, “he said.

“We deeply regret the attempts to delegitimize the president of this Confederation, Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, who has the total support of the National Board of Directors – a democratically eleventh by our Confederate Chambers – and of the more than 2 million entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs and companies that make up our body throughout the country,” he added.

“To the authorities and public opinion we reiterate that the Law of Business Chambers and its Confederations recognizes as the only legitimate representative of the Commerce, Services and Tourism sector to Concanaco Servytur and its cameras, with the representation of Octavio de la Torre by presiding over it,” he said.

“We clarify that this pause is only with respect to the president of the CCE, Francisco Cervantes, and occurs as long as the statutory times of his position are not respected, as well as the presidents of the six founding bodies and as long as they do not assert the statute of the Business Coordinating Council itself,” he said.

He explained that this determination is not aimed at companies or businessmen that make up these organizations.

“We will continue working firmly, legality and commitment to the unity of the business sector and for a more fair, competitive and inclusive Mexico,” concluded the SERVYTUR.
