Juan José Sierra Álvarez, president of the Patronal Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex), said that the temporal suspension of Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, leader of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur), was to violate the statutes of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE).
He said that the suspension was a decision voted by the CCE Executive Commission: “A unanimity decision, that is, there were 6 votes of 7 and went to the person and not to the institution.”

He said that Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano made decisions that caused “violations of the statutes of the Business Coordinating Council, especially against decisions made unanimously by the person and not of the institution.”
“There were a series of actions against the Statutes of the CCE and it is not a subject of law, but of statutes of the Business Coordinating Council,” he said.
He added that the Concanaco Servytur is a confederation that is made up of other local business organizations.
In order for the punishment to the president of the Concanaco Servytur, there must be an institutional reflection of the Confederation Council to withdraw the pause in participation, said Juan José Sierra Álvarez.
On April 4, the CCE suspended Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano and the Concanaco Servytur attributed it to the support made by the representative to the Infonavit reform.
“We categorically reject the narrative that the suspension of our Confederation and our President, Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, is not linked to the support we gave to the dialogue and the reform of the Infonavit and the participation in the organs of the Infonavit where Concanaco has a greater proportion,” said the Concanaco Servyur.
The agency led by Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano said that this reason was exposed clearly and directly by the Coparmex and the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of the United Mexican States (Concamin) during the CCE Executive Commission meetings.

“To this was added the claim to our decision as a business body to work in a coordinated manner with the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra) and the Council of the Magilator and Manufacturing Industry of Export Services (Index), as a sign that our vocation is of unity and strengthening of the national productive sector,” added the SERVYTUR Concanaco.
“We regret that the president of the CCE, Francisco Cervantes Díaz, tries to present as prominence what is actually leadership,” he said.
He pointed out that “the actions of the President of the Concanaco Servytur have been promoted with a vision of the future, seeking to build and not divide.”
The CCE reported that the affiliates and members of the Concanaco Servytur are still part of the Council.
“The recent unanimous decision to provisionally suspend the participation of its president, Octavio de la Torre, in our Executive Commission does not imply in any way the exclusion of the agency, its business community or its members, who remain a fundamental part of the business ecosystem they represent,” said the CCE.
He added that he respects the diversity of opinions around public policies, since as an agency his responsibility is to ensure that dialogue and business representation are developed within a consensus framework, aligned with the principles and agreements of the business body.
