The Patronal Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) asked the Government of Claudia Sheinbaum that the reform to reduce the working day must be built with dialogue, gradualism and economic realism and that it is not a political imposition.

“Any modification to the Federal Labor Law must be built from the responsible dialogue, based on data and considering the difficult current economic context that the country and companies face, in particular the micro, small and medium -sized ones,” said the body led by Juan José Sierra Álvarez in a statement.

The employer union said he is willing to participate in the work tables that the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare will convene.

“We are ready to add, with arguments and proposals, to a process that must include all voices and make visible the reality of the different economic sectors,” he said.

“Today is not a moment of unilateral decisions, or political impositions,” he added.

According to Coparmex, they are times to build agreements to guarantee the balance between productivity, improvements in working conditions and business viability.

He added that the business sector is united to promote the well -being of working people without compromising the sustainability of employment sources.

“The collaboration between workers, companies and government has allowed the sustained increase in the minimum wage, the expansion of vacation, the regulation of subcontracting and a pension reform,” he said.

“Each of the achievements should not put themselves at risk, but must consolidate so that there is more productivity, formality and conducive conditions for companies to respond to the challenges of the internal and external market,” he said.

“Today the deductibility is required to 100 percent of labor benefits and the update of the Employment Subsidies Table (ISR), as key elements to promote formality and facilitate the implementation of new labor obligations,” said Coparmex.

“Any proposal to reduce the working day must include a gradual, flexible and appropriate implementation to the capacities of each productive sector,” he added.

He added that reasonable exceptions must be established for specific activities, which due to their nature require different schemes, in order to avoid negative impacts that can translate into loss of jobs or increase in informality.

“We insist that no deep change can be carried out without a real tripartite social dialogue,” he said.
