Chicago, (EFE) .- The Court of the Northern District of Illinois, where Ovid Guzmán López- son of the Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and heir to the Sinaloa Cartel- had planned to declare himself guilty on Wednesday for drug trafficking as part of an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office, he decided on Tuesday to postpone the hearing for Friday, according to a judicial document issued this afternoon.

The document indicates that it was “by motion of the court itself”, but does not mention the reason for the postponement.

In 2012, the US government included Guzmán López in the list of international drug traffickers “Kingpin Act” for considering that he played “a relevant role in his father’s activities” and EU until he pointed out that, the one known for the nickname El Mouse, ordered the murder of a “popular Mexican singer” who did not want to go to his wedding.

Guzmán López got international fame after the “culiacanazo” or Battle of Culiacán on October 17, 2019, when he was first arrested as part of the Headquarters of the Sinaloa Cartel.

After his arrest of elite military, Culiacán became a battlefield in which several military was taken as hostages by the Chapitos -a group formed by four of the children of the Chapo.

The arrest followed a wave of shooting with automatic weapons through the streets and fires of vehicles, so the then president Andrés Manuel López Obrador chose to free Guzmán López.

At the beginning of 2023, Guzmán López was captured for the second time in Culiacán, a few days before the visit of the then US president, Joe Biden, for the North American Leaders Summit.

Like his father, the mouse had an escape tunnel that drove from the interior parking lot of his backyard to the outside of the complex, but did not have time to use it to escape the army.

At first, after being extradited to the US, in 2023, he declared himself not guilty of the charges against him: conspire to distribute drugs, be part of a criminal company, export narcotics to the United States, to carry out financial transactions with the product of illegal activities and to use and unlawfully carry firearms.

However, on June 30, the mouse stamped its signature for the first time in a legal document for the Court of the Southern District of New York, in which it declared itself guilty of the crimes that weigh on it.

In the document, in addition, Guzmán López asked to transfer his case to the Court of Illinois, in Chicago, where he is detained and faces charges for drug trafficking in that city, as well as in New York and the Columbia district.
