The former Argentine president Cristina Fernández (2007-2015) stated that “the Constitution must be reformed” of the South American country and denied that she had an agreement with the current president, Javier Milei, as denounced by part of the opposition, according to an interview that was broadcast this Wednesday.

Fernández maintained that “the Constitution” of Argentina, whose last modification was made in 1994, “must be reformed, and that he would add “a system of amendments as it is in the United States,” in an interview for the Generación 94 podcast.

The former president added that “the election period would have to be modified,” because she considered that “there cannot be elections every two years, there has to be every four years,” since in Argentina presidential elections are held every four years and legislative elections every two years. years.

The former vice president (2019-2023), who is facing a series of cases in court, said that “the judicial system must be modified,” because, “just as the presidential system was not attenuated, neither does the judicial branch act in its function.” specific for the excesses of the Executive Branch.”

In reference to the judicial power, he added that “we must introduce what can be declared constitutional or unconstitutional.”

The former president valued “the reform that is being carried out in Mexico,” regarding the election of judges being by popular vote and eliminating the monarchical hindrance, and he asked himself “is it modern that someone who can decide about your life, your freedom and your assets lasts a lifetime? The only power that does that is the judicial power.”

The former president also valued the election of the attorney general in the United States, who “is chosen by the president and goes with the president,” while in Argentina with “the current legislation lasts for life.”

In the interview with journalist Rodis Recalt, Fernández referred to the accusations from a sector of the opposition that maintains that there is an agreement between her and Milei: “When I hear that said, I say: “But are these people kidding me?” .

It is because a session in the Chamber of Deputies to debate the ‘Ficha Clean’ bill became a scandal last Thursday when a quorum was not achieved because representatives from all parties were missing, but the most prominent were the eight of the far-right La Libertad Avanza, Milei’s party.

The ‘Ficha Clean’ bill prevents those convicted in the second instance of corruption from running in general elections for public office, which would have prevented Fernández from being a candidate in the legislative elections in 2025, so opposition leaders denounced that Milei has an “agreement” with the former president to let her be a candidate next year and polarize with her as an electoral strategy.

The Criminal Cassation Chamber confirmed on November 14 a sentence to Fernández to six years in prison and perpetual disqualification from holding public office in a trial for irregularities in the concession of road works during her Government and that of her husband Néstor Kirchner (2003 -2007).

Fernández argued that his bloc, Unión por la Patria, could not stop Milei’s initiatives, which were facilitated by the “dialogueists” bloc and the party led by former president Mauricio Macri (2015-2019), Republican Proposal.

“And it turns out that we are the ones who agreed with Milei? The truth is, they are very cheeky…” Fernández stated.
