A coalition of Cubans in exile and residing in Miami, which brings together half a hundred organizations inside and outside the island, urged the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to strengthen – at the same time of finishing – Radio and Televisión Martí, considering that means of crucial communication for the freedom of Cuba.

“The preservation and strengthening of this media is indispensable for the Cuban people,” said the Cuban Resistance Assembly, composed of 53 groups.

The Trump government ordered on Friday a reduction of personnel from the US agency for global media (USAGM), which in addition to Radio and Televisión Martí, which transmits from the United States news in Spanish to Cuba, includes the voice of America; Radio Free Europe, destined to the center and east of Europe, and Radio Free Asia, focused on the East Asian.

The coalition urged the Republican Administration to reinforce the Office of Transmissions to Cuba, which administers Martí radio and television.

He said that this medium for decades has been a “very valuable instrument for information, communication and dissemination of libertarian efforts” of opponents on the island.

“The freedom and democratization of Cuba is not only of the interest and benefit of Cubans but also,” the Cuban Resistance Assembly recalled in the statement.

He indicated that for more than six decades the communist dictatorship in Cuba has been the worst enemy of the United States as in 1962 with the threat of Soviet nuclear missiles in 1962 and also the anti -Americanism promoted in the region.

He recalled that the island “has military and espionage bases installed in its territory of the United States adversary regimes and has consistently undermined American national security.”
