Daeron Targaryen’s Prophetic Dreams In A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms

The jig is up for Aegon “Egg” Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell) after A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 3. Everyone knows he’s a Targaryen prince and his days of pretending to be a peasant are over. In episode 4, we also get the confirmation that the drunk at the inn in episode 1 is Egg’s brother, Daeron (Henry Ashton).

In order to get his father to go along with his trial of seven, Aerion (Finn Bennett) claims his older brother Daeron’s honor was besmirched when Dunk (Peter Claffey) abducted Egg from him. Which, of course, isn’t true. Daeron has no interest in fighting Dunk, and doesn’t defend himself from Dunk’s anger.

He instead apologizes to Dunk, and admits he’s a man of little honor, though he suggests fighting on Aerion’s side will actually be good for Dunk, considering his martial abilities. Daeron and Dunk then have a talk, and Daeron tells him something that sounds like inebriated ramblings. However, knowing who Daeron is makes his words more foreboding.

Daeron & Daenerys Targaryen Are Both Dreamers In The Game Of Thrones Universe

When we first meet Daeron at the inn, he mumbles that he’s seen Dunk in a dream. When he again appears in episode 4, he references this again (clearly having forgotten he already did so in his state). Daeron tells Dunk he saw the knight alongside fire and a dead dragon. His dreams come true, Daeron says.

Another Targaryen also had dreams that came true, one Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) 100 years later. In Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire, Daenerys has many dreams, most notably, one in which a black dragon bathes her in fire. Later, she gives birth to her three dragons.

There Have Been Several Important Dreamers In The Targaryen Family Tree

Daenerys and Daeron are linked by these dreams, and it’s actually fairly common for Targaryens to have these dreams. So common, they have a name: dragon dreams. These are prophetic dreams that several Targaryens have had over the centuries, and have aided the family in their rise to power.

Daenys “The Dreamer” Targaryen dreamed about the Doom of Valyria, and it was her dream that convinced her father, Aenar Targaryen, to leave the Freehold over 100 years before Aegon’s conquest. There’s a suggestion that Aegon only set out to conquer Westeros after having a prophetic dream.

Maester Aemon (Peter Vaughan) in Game of Thrones begins to have dragon dreams as he nears his death. Daenerys’ dragon dreams in Game of Thrones helped her to realize her destiny, but Daeron’s in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms sound more like they signal the end of the Targaryens.
