The Chamber of Deputies amended the plan to the Senate by eliminating retroactivity in the reform of the Amparo Law, confirming that said application would violate the Constitution, reported the news agency Quadratín México.

Julio César Moreno, president of the Justice Commission in San Lázaro, confirmed the suppression of the transitional article that had been approved by the Upper House.

Moreno described the inclusion of said transition as an “occurrence” and assured that the deputies will compensate the minutes to return to the original proposal sent by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Quadratín added that the controversial article sought for the reform to be applied retroactively to amparo trials that were already underway.

However, both specialists and legislators warned that this action contravened Article 14 of the Constitution, which prohibits giving retroactive effect to a law to the detriment of any person.

Moreno announced that, after a joint meeting of the Justice and Finance and Public Credit commissions, it was agreed to postpone the discussion of the reform and hold open parliaments to hear different arguments before its final vote.
