Fashion week in New York City is a stressful time for designers showcasing their latest lines in the hopes that shoppers will buy what they’re selling.

But fashion designer Jill Stuart has already cashed in on her latest product — a Soho penthouse, which she sold for $15 million, according to public records filed with the city this week.

Stuart bought the condo for $11.2 million in 2007, and was originally seeking $24.5 million when it hit the market in July 2023. The home underwent a series of price cuts and was last asking $16 million when it went into contract in June, according to StreetEasy.

Modlin Group’s Adam Modlin and Compass’ Nick Gavin shared the listing.

Completed in 2005, the 12-story, 40-unit building at 330 Spring Street was architect Philip Johnson’s last project before his death.

With interiors designed by Annabelle Selldorf, the full-floor five-bedroom features two terraces totaling almost 1,600 square feet and 360-degree exposures from floor-to-ceiling windows in every room. From a private elevator landing, a foyer leads into the open-layout living and dining rooms, which are separated from a western media room.

An eat-in kitchen with two islands, two full-size fridges and a wine fridge is on the eastern side of the unit. The western and southern sides of the penthouse hold bedroom suites that can be closed off from public areas. Four of the five bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms; two of the bedroom suites share jack-and-jill bathrooms, each with a soaking tub and stall shower.

The primary suite has its own terrace, a walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom with a soaking tub and double vanity.

Stuart is not the first artful resident in the striking building, which was named in homage to Johnson’s original Glass Building in New Canaan, Conn. Serbian performance artist Marina Abramovic purchased a two-bedroom condo for $2.65 million in 2013.

Stuart, who has been spending more time in Paris per a friend quoted in the New York Post, also sold her Sagaponack estate for $9.4 million in 2023. The 5,000-square-foot farmhouse sat on a 1.6-acre property, which came with a pool house with its own gym, a gas fire pit, Jacuzzi and four-car garage.

Stuart, whose parents owned a sportswear brand that dressed celebrities like Natalie Wood and Lucille Ball in the 1960s and 1970s, attended the prestigious Dalton School in the city and sold her first collection of accessories while there at the age of 15 to Bloomingdale’s.

Her fashion empire later expanded rapidly, and she has dressed celebrities like Kerry Washington, Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel.

The recent sales still may be of help to Stuart, who claimed in court that her now ex-husband lost $25 million mishandling a family trust.
