ISCC PLUS is a voluntary scheme that certifies the proper management of recycled and biomass-derived raw materials in the supply chain, including production processes. This certification facilitates the use of raw materials for which the mass balance approach is applied. Additionally, the use of bio-separated feedstock in mass balance is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of DIC Group’s largest product by 19.4ï¼…,¡ compared to conventional products using fossil-derived feedstock.
DIC Group has identified contributing to the realization of carbon neutrality, the creation of a circular economy and the establishment of a sustainable supply chain as issues of material importance that it must address. In the future, together with Group companies operating in more than 60 countries and territories, DIC will continue to work to ensure sustainable development in line with the goal of contributing to sustainability for the global environment and society.
Managed by International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), ISCC PLUS is a globally applicable certification system that certifies products where recycled and biomass-derived raw materials are properly managed in the supply chain.
In the production of products, raw materials of different origins, i.e. materials derived from biomass and oil, are often mixed. The mass balance approach is a methodology for attributing the properties of sustainable raw materials to the final product based on its input quantities.
¡ To calculate a product’s carbon footprint (the CO2 emissions it adds to the atmosphere), DIC uses primary emissions data from bio-degraded raw materials and secondary data (from the Environmental Analysis Inventory Database (Ecoinvent v3.10)) for mass balance. raw materials obtained from residue. The scope of the data collected is up to five, i.e. from the extraction of the raw material until it leaves the DIC production facility, from where it subtracts the biogenic emissions (CO ‚‚ absorbed by the biomass during growth) to obtain a value. Complies with the ISO 14067 standard of the International Organization for Standardization.
