Dick’s Sporting Goods is preparing to launch an interactive retail concept at the Stonebriar Centre in Frisco.
The Pennsylvania-based retailer will establish a House of Sport location at the long-vacant Sears store at 2605 Preston Road, the Dallas Business Journal reported.
The concept has seen success in other parts of the country. A store in Minnesota led to a 20 percent increase in mall traffic and a reported eight percent sales boost in 2023, the outlet said.
The concept incorporates interactive features, such as climbing walls, golf simulation bays and batting cages.
The Texas market promises growth opportunity, Dick’s Sporting Goods CEO Lauren Hobart said. The company intends to open 15 locations this year and expand to between 75 and 100 locations by 2027.
Construction of a 120,000-square-foot House of Sport location is already underway at the Parks Mall in Arlington, which will also occupy a space left vacant by Sears.
Sears, a founding tenant of Stonebriar Centre, filed for bankruptcy in 2018, leaving the Frisco and Arlington spaces vacant.
Dick’s is also investing in logistics real estate with the development of a regional distribution center in Fort Worth. The 800,000-square-foot center, at the Risinger/35 Logistics Park, is expected to be completed by 2026 and cost $98 million, or $123 per square foot.
Frisco is one of the fastest-growing markets in North Texas, with over 18,000 residents relocating to the city between 2020 and 2023. Its booming real estate market also ranks among the most active in Texas, drawing investments and large-scale developments.
Major projects contributing to the growth include the $520 million Omni PGA Frisco Resort, the $7 billion Hall Park redevelopment by Hall Group, Universal Studios’ upcoming theme park and The Mix, a $3 billion venture by JVP Management.
