The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Susan Monaz, has been removed from position, according to the Department of Human Health and Services (HHS) on Wednesday, just a few weeks after having assumed the position.

Key facts
The HHS pointed out that Monaz “no longer” occupies the position of director of the CDC, thanking her for her “dedication to the service of the US people.”

There has been no official reason for the departure of Monarch, but The New York Times reported, citing unidentified sources familiar with the matter, which “seemed to have collided with the Secretary of Health, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., by opposing his changes in the panel of experts who advise the agency on vaccine policy.

Monarch was confirmed by the Senate on July 29 and officially assumed as director of the CDC on July 31, when Kennedy expressed in a statement that he had “total confidence in her ability to restore the role of CDCs as the most reliable authority in public health.”

Before her swear, Monaz had been performing as an interim director of the CDC since the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second mandate and was the first director of the CDC since 1953 who was not a doctor.
