Disney+’s Percy Jackson & The Olympians TV show has been wildly successful, which is a great sign for another highly-anticipated young adult fantasy remake. YA books have a long history of bad Hollywood movie adaptations.

We all remember the failure of A Series of Unfortunate Events, which was later remade into an excellent Netflix show. Artemis Fowl was a complete flop. The Golden Compass completely removed the most essential part of the book. I won’t even go into The Mortal Instruments or Vampire Academy.

However, not every book series is doomed by a bad adaptation. Percy Jackson had two bad movies, but Disney+ gave it a second chance. They hired a whole new team and brought the story to life as a TV show. Luckily, Percy Jackson & The Olympians has been successful, providing hope for another fantasy remake.

Percy Jackson’s Success Is A Great Sign For Disney+’s Eragon TV Show

Back in 2022, the Disney+ TV adaptation of Eragon was announced. The popular fantasy book by Christopher Paolini came out just two years before The Lightning Thief, and both series took the world by storm. As such, Disney+’s Percy Jackson & The Olympians’ success is a great sign.

Percy Jackson and Eragon both had failed film adaptations that didn’t do their books justice. They were panned by critics and fans alike. Considering it’s hard to get these groups to agree on anything, that says a lot. However, Disney+ brought Percy Jackson to life in a very successful TV adaptation, which has released two excellent seasons with two more seasons already on the way.

The success of Percy Jackson can be attributed to its high production value, strong acting, impressive practical effects, and dedication to creating an accurate adaptation. What’s more, Rick Riordan helped bring the show to life.

If Disney+ puts the same time and attention into making a faithful Eragon TV show, it could be an absolute hit. This is especially likely since author Christopher Paolini is involved in bringing the show to life.

Disney+’s Eragon TV Show Will Need A Long Run Like Percy Jackson & The Olympians

Percy Jackson & The Olympians consists of 5 books, not including the sequel series. They’re currently adapting one book per season. Luckily, Disney+ has proven themselves willing to invest in the YA story that will run for multiple seasons. They’re also happy to renew the series ahead of time, which is crucial for stories with young protagonists.

If Eragon follows the same path as Percy Jackson, the series will need four seasons. Additionally, Eragon might not be as young as Percy Jackson, but he is still a teenager, meaning they will have to film multiple seasons quickly to prevent major appearance changes from season to season. Since Percy Jackson & The Olympians is performing well, Disney+ might actually give this to Eragon.

Eragon Will Face Steeper Competition Than Percy Jackson & The Olympians

The only thing that could make Eragon a little more challenging for Disney+ is that the adaptation will have a little bit more competition than Percy Jackson & The Olympians. There aren’t a ton of Greek mythology TV shows currently running.

However, by the time Eragon comes out, there will be about three other dragon shows running. The Disney+ show will have to compete with the likes of Fourth Wing, Wings of Fire, and House of the Dragon. The good news is that two of the four target adults instead of young adults, so Eragon might still be able to thrive.
