MEXICO CITY.- 73% of workers in Mexico continue to attend labor issues during their summer vacation, either by responding urgent emails or working partially or completely, according to a survey of the Occ.

The year, carried out this month between 3,753 users of the job stock market, revealed that only 27% manages to disconnect completely, according to a statement.

Among the reasons that prevent effective disconnection, both personal and structural factors stand out:

  • 36% mentioned their need to be pending
  • 31% pointed to the direct pressure of their bosses or supervisors
  • 30% attributes to business culture that expects continuous availability
  • 16% indicated that customer demand interferes with their rest
  • 13% because their companions do not allow it
  • 11% experience fear or anxiety to lose opportunities if you move completely

The OCC explained that only 7% of the participants in the survey always take vacations on these dates, and 45% do so only if their workload allows it.

On the other hand, 32% prefer other dates throughout the year, 13% said they do not take vacations and 2% indicated that they do not apply because they are freelance.

Regarding the duration of the rest, most workers still have limited holiday periods: 39% take between 5 and 10 days a year, 26% between 11 and 15 days, 15% less than 5 days and only 11% enjoy more than 15 days per year. 5% declared not to take vacations at all.

To this is added that, despite the reform that establishes a minimum of 12 days of vacation in the first year of work, its implementation is not yet total. 14% of respondents indicated that they have not yet granted him more days, 15% said that his company has not applied the reform and 18% said he did not know if it is already applied in their workplace.

Finally, the survey showed that the impact of increasing vacation days is widely recognized among workers, since 68% consider that it would have a very positive effect, allowing greater energy, motivation and a real disconnection and 23% see it as positive, by improving the balance. Only 9% considered that the change is void, null or negative.
