The president of the United States, Donald Trump, will attend the male final of the United States Open on Sunday, a tournament that has not come for ten years, as confirmed by the White House in the last hours.

The male final of the Open (scheduled for 14.00 local time), one of the most important sporting events of the year in New York, will be starring the winners of the two semifinals that are played this Friday, which faces the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz with the Serbian Novak Djokovic and which will subsequently play the Italian Jannik Sinner against Canadian Felix Auger-AliasSime.

Although it has several hotels in the Big Apple, the president plans to make a round trip from Washington on Sunday.

The presence of Trump has not surprised, given his love to appeal in the great most mediated sports finals, such as the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the FIFA club final in New Jersey or that of Mixed UFC martial arts in Miami.

In all of them, Trump has been imposed as one of the stars of each event, disputing the prominence to the athletes themselves and in some cases ‘casting’ in the delivery of trophies, as happened in the FIFA final.

Trump had a box for years for his organization and his family, which he used to go before his entry into politics and his assumption as president, but since 2015 he does not come to a final.

One of the unknowns of the day will be the reception that Trump deserves in the great sporting event of the summer of New York, a traditionally Democratic and progressive city.
