The constitutional reform of 2024 crystallized years of attempts of AMLO for returning to the CFE the preeminence in the sector, under the Flag of Security and Energy Self -sufficiency, which is settled in the law initiative that will be sent to Congress.

Sheinbaum, a physics with a PhD in Energy Engineering, has said that he will promote the use of renewable energy in his government.
According to the draft, the electrical system must promote energy transition and decarbonization, unlike what is driven by its predecessor that mainly promoted the use of fossil fuels.
Sheinbaum and AMLO argue that national sovereignty requires that the CFE serves as the main engine of the electricity sector, and have described it as more capable of providing services to the population compared to companies that maximize their profits.

When she presented the national strategy of the electricity sector in early November, President Sheninbaum stressed that the CFE would maintain 54% of the electricity generation and the rest for private investment.
