The phenomenon ‘Emilia Pérez’ won the Golden Globes this Sunday with four awards that add to her spectacular record, while the post-war story ‘The Brutalist’ won the fight in the drama categories at the start of the Hollywood awards season.

The narco-musical by Frenchman Jacques Audiard was the big winner of the night, taking the awards for best comedy or musical film and best foreign-language film, an unusual scenario for these awards.

The actress of Dominican origin Zoe Saldaña won the Golden Globe, the first of her career, for best supporting actress for her role as Rita Mora in ‘Emilia Pérez’, and best song for ‘El Camino’.

The post-war drama ‘The Brutalist’ won the drama section with three awards, including best film, best actor for Adrien Brody and best director for Brady Corbet.

Demi Moore’s first award

Actress Demi Moore was the surprise of the night not only for snatching the Golden Globe for best comedy actress from the Spanish Karla Sofía Gascón for ‘Emilia Pérez’, but also for receiving the first recognition in her more than 40 years of career for his performance in ‘The Substance’.

In a speech in which she reaffirmed her value as an actress, a Moore on the verge of tears recalled the moment in which a producer called her a “popcorn actress,” words that she ended up believing and assuming until that the script for this film, directed by Coralie Fargeat, came into his hands.

“I felt like the universe told me that it wasn’t over,” she said emotionally.

Also, the Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres managed to win in the category for best drama actress with her performance in ‘I’m Still Here’, with which she competed alongside renowned stars such as Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet, Pamela Anderson and Tilda Swinton.

Torres remembered her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, during her emotional speech, who was sitting 25 years ago in that same room for her Golden Globe nomination for best actress for her role in ‘Central do Brasil’.

‘Shogun’ strengthens his empire and ‘Hacks’ defeats ‘The Bear’

In the television categories ‘Shogun’ continued with the streak of success that began in September when it won 18 Emmy Awards by receiving this Sunday the four Golden Globes for which it was competing: best drama series; best actor (Hiroyuki Sanada); actress (Anna Sawai); and supporting actor in a series (Tadanobu Asano).

Asano gave one of the most endearing speeches, as he did not hide his emotion upon receiving the award: “I know that many do not know me, I am a Japanese actor. My name is Tadanobu Asano. “Thank you very much! I’m very happy!” he said, stunned.

As for the comedy sections, ‘Hacks’ defeated the most nominated of the night ‘The Bear’, which had five, winning the award for best comedy or musical series and best actress for Jean Smart.

But ‘The Bear’ was not forgotten, its protagonist Jeremy Allen White won for the third consecutive year the award for best comedy actor for his role as chef Carmy Berzatto, although he was conspicuous by his absence at the gala, as was Javier Bardem, who, together with the Mexican Diego Luna, was chasing the statuette for best supporting actor in a series.

The story of the harassment and abuse that screenwriter and actor Richard Gadd experienced, ‘Baby Reindeer’, triumphed as the best miniseries and its supporting actress Jessica Gunning snatched the Golden Globe from the interpreter of Puerto Rican descent Liza Colón-Zayas (‘The Bear’).

During his time on stage, Gadd asked the platforms to save “a little bit of their budget” for “the little people” who seek to tell complex stories and that he hoped that the success of ‘Baby Reindeer’ would “dispel” theories that The public does not want to see such “dark” plots on the screen.

Likewise, the opportunities for more Latinos to triumph in the television categories at night vanished when Jodie Foster (‘True Detective: Night Country Part: 1’) took away Colombian Sofía Vergara’s opportunity to win her first Golden Globe for her performance in ‘Griselda’.
