The Board of Directors of Grupo Televisa approved a request from Emilio Azcárraga Jean, executive president of the body, to take leave while the company faces an investigation by the US Department of Justice (DoJ), regarding the “FIFAGate” that was recently revealed. .

“Grupo Televisa announced that its Board of Directors approved a proposal from Mr. Emilio Azcárraga Jean, Executive President of the Board, to take leave, with immediate effect, while the investigation being carried out by the Department of Justice is resolved. The company continues to cooperate with the investigation,” the company said in its third quarter financial report published this Thursday.

The DoJ accused the broadcaster of “artificially inflating” the price of its American depositary receipts (ADR) by concealing $15 million in bribes to obtain World Cup rights for 2018, 2022, 2026 and 2030.

In 2023, Televisa agreed to pay $95 million in a class action lawsuit in exchange for the petitioners giving up the bidding competition.

At the end of August, Televisa reported that it learned that the investigation carried out by the United States related to FIFA could have a “material impact” on its financial situation or results of operations.

“The company cannot predict the outcome of the investigation or whether it will actually have a material impact. “We are cooperating with the investigation,” he told the investing public.
