LENAPE HEIGHTS EVENT CENTER CLOSED, LEAVING BRIDES SCRAMBLING AND LOTS OF EMPLOYEES WITHOUT A JOB. EMPLOYEES OF LENAPE HEIGHTS LEFT CONFUSED AND SCRAMBLING FOR WORK AFTER THE EVENT CENTER SUDDENLY CLOSED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THEY TELL ME IT’S BEEN AN ONGOING PROCESS SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH, BEING TOLD ABOUT THE SALE, BUT THAT BUSINESS WOULD RESUME AS USUAL. BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. WELL, WE WE WERE TOLD THAT WE WERE GOING TO COME BACK TO WORK WHEN WE WERE ALL SET TO COME BACK TO WORK, AND THEN WE ALL GOT TERMINATION LETTERS IN THE MAIL. WE DON’T HAVE JOBS AND NO ONE IS REALLY BEING TOLD ANY STRAIGHT ANSWERS, OR SOMETIMES EVEN BEING RESPONDED TO AT ALL. NOW, EMPLOYEES BEING LEFT WITH MORE QUESTIONS. THAN ANSWERS. AND I WANT TO KNOW IF THE OLD OWNERS KNEW THIS WAS COMING. UM, I WANT TO KNOW IF THE NEW OWNERS KNEW THAT THIS WAS WHAT THEY HAD PLANNED AND THEY DIDN’T TELL ANYBODY. I WANT TO KNOW WHO’S AT FAULT HERE AND THE MANY SCHEDULED EVENTS FOR THE YEAR CANCELED, INCLUDING OVER DOZENS OF WEDDINGS, ONE EVEN SCHEDULED FOR AS SOON AS NEXT MONTH. ONE BRIDE BOOKING HER WEDDING FOR MAY BUT FINDING OUT JUST LAST WEEK ABOUT THE VENUE’S CLOSURE FOR 2 TO 3 WEEKS, WE’VE BEEN TRYING RINGING, RINGING, RINGING. NOTHING. UM, ACTUALLY, THE PHONE LINES ACTUALLY DIED AFTER LIKE THE FIRST WEEK YOU WOULD RING AND IT WOULD BE NOTHING. UM, SO WE DROVE UP VALENTINE’S DAY NIGHT AND FOUND A NOTE ON THE DOOR THAT IT WAS CLOSED A DAY LATER, AN EMAIL BEING SENT OUT EXPLAINING THE CLOSURE AND TELLING BRIDES THEY WOULD GET THEIR DEPOSITS BACK. THEY TELL ME THAT DOESN’T MAKE UP FOR WHAT HAPPENED AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, HOW IT HAPPENED. SO THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A WHILE AND WE JUST HAD NO WARNING WHATSOEVER. IT’S STILL UNKNOWN WHAT THE SPACE WILL BE USED FOR NOW THAT THE VENUE AND HOTEL HAVE BEEN SOLD TO NEW OWNE

Imagine planning a wedding for later this year, securing your venue and then, all of a sudden, the venue closes without any warning.That’s the nightmare many brides are now living after Lenape Heights Event Center and Golf Course closed, leaving brides scrambling and even lots of employees without a job.Employees say it’s been an ongoing process since the beginning of the month, being told about the sale but that business would resume as usual. But that was not the case.”We were told that we were going to go back to work, we were all set to come back to work and then we all got termination letters in the mail,” Brittney Crone said. “We don’t have jobs, and no one is really being told any straight answers or sometimes even being responded to at all,” Jordan Simpson said. Now, employees are left with more questions than answers. “I want to know if the old owners knew this was coming. I want to know if the new owners knew that this is what they had planned and they didn’t tell anybody. I want to know who’s at fault here,” Crone said.And the many scheduled events for the year are canceled, including more than a dozen weddings. One was even scheduled for as soon as next month. One bride booked her wedding for May and found out just last week about the venue’s closure.”For two to three weeks, we’ve been trying, ringing, ringing, ringing. Nothing. Actually, the phone lines died after, like, the first week. You would ring, and it would be nothing. So we drove up Valentine’s Day night, and we found a note on the door that it was closed,” Megan Kiebler said.A day later, an email was sent out explaining the closure and telling brides they would get their deposits back. They say that doesn’t make up for what happened, and more importantly how it happened.”So this has been going on for a while. We just had no warning whatsoever,” Kiebler said. It’s still unknown what the space will be used for, now that the venue and hotel has been sold to new owners.
