MEXICO CITY.- Mauricio Samuel Weinberg López and his son, Alexis Weinberg Pinto, indicated as part of the resource diversion and money laundering of Genaro García Luna, reached an agreement with the Government of Mexico with which they asked a court in Miami dismissing the civil litigation against him, reported the process website.

The media recalled that the Weinberg were pointed out by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) as provision of García Luna, so they were included in the demand raised against the former secretary of Public Security, in which he and his wife have already been sentenced to pay 2,488 million dollars to the Mexican government for participating in a money laundering scheme.

The FIUF later reported Wednesday that he voluntarily withdrew his demand in Miami against García Luna’s partners.

He pointed out in a statement that the parties have requested the judge of the case “to keep their jurisdiction to issue a sentence only if it arises from the agreement that has been achieved.”

“It should be noted that the voluntary withdrawal of the action would not affect the sentence against García Luna, his wife and companies, because, where appropriate, he would be requested after his conviction,” he said.

The information pointed out that, within the framework of the trial for the recovery of assets filed by Mexico against García Luna and its partners, Judge Lisa Walsh “authorized the continuation of the dialogue between the parties to maintain the search for an agreement beyond the mandatory stage of mediation.”

Even, the note indicated that the dialogue will continue during the period that had previously been defined for the trial stage, which included the period between April 28 and May 23, 2025.

The statement reported that “the parties have advanced substantially to specify the agreement that will allow the Mexican State to deepen the knowledge of the plot of corruption investigated” and the recovery of goods derived from it, said agreement “could not be signed before the indicated deadline.”

Due to this, the parties asked Judge Walsh to measure the voluntary withdrawal of the claim without prejudice, according to which, once the viability of the agreement is resolved, it will be submitted to its jurisdiction to make it comply and issue the corresponding sentence.

“Either, if the agreement is not completed and within a term of 30 days, the Mexican State may again submit the claim before the same court to follow the procedural course of the trial to the sentence,” he added.

According to rule 1.420 (a) (1) of the Civil Procedures Code of Florida, “Mexico can withdraw its demand voluntarily at any time.”

Although regularly the effect of voluntary retirement implies ending the procedure without a substantive judicial resolution, in “this case the parties have asked the judge to keep jurisdiction to issue a sentence only if it arises from the agreement that has been achieved,” said the statement.

If the agreement is not perfected, “the possibility of re -submitting the demand is maintained, since the fund of the current procedure will not have been resolved,” he said.

On May 22, an American Court issued a final sentence against García Luna and his wife, Linda Cristina Pereyra, who must pay together 2,488 million dollars to the Mexican State for their participation in a network of bribes in public tenders.

The sentence was issued by Judge Walsh, after the Mexican government filed a lawsuit against the former official, who is imprisoned in the United States after being convicted of drug trafficking, money laundering, conspiracy and illicit enrichment.

García Luna, 56, was arrested in Dallas in 2019 and in February 2023, was convicted of five crimes for cocaine traffic, relation to a criminal company (the Sinaloa Cartel) and false testimony after a jury trial.
