The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAME) activated Phase 1 of Environmental Contingency by Ozone in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico (ZMVM) due to maximum concentrations at the Tlalnepantla station, in the State of Mexico.
Therefore, this Thursday, February 27, circulation is prevented from the following vehicles between 5:00 and 22:00 hours:
- Private vehicles with verification hologram 2.
- Vehicles with hologram 1 and plate termination 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 0.
- Vehicles with hologram 00 and 0, green gum, plate termination 1 and 2.
- Vehicles without verification hologram (foreigners, tourist pass, old, demonstration or transfer).
- 50% of LP gas distribution units without dry disconnection valve (target plate termination).
- Local and federal cargo vehicles between 6:00 and 10:00 hours (except those in self -regulation programs).
- Taxis with hologram 00, 0, 1 or 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Electric and hybrid vehicles, emergency transport, school and personnel transport, and motorcycles are exempt from restrictions.
According to the CAME report, a high pressure system in the region has caused adverse atmospheric conditions, such as light winds and intense solar radiation, which has favored the accumulation of pollutants and ozone formation.
Recommendations for the population
CAME recommends the population to avoid outdoor activities between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., especially for children, older adults, pregnant women and people with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
In addition, it suggests postponing sporting and cultural events, avoiding smoking in closed spaces and staying informed about air quality through the “air” app or on the website www.aire.cdmx.gob.mx.

Measures to reduce emissions
To reduce the generation of pollutants, CAME recommends:
- Facilitate distance work and make purchases and procedures online.
- Avoid the use of aerosols, solvents, waterproofing and paintings.
- Recharge gasoline after 6:00 p.m. and before 10:00 a.m.
- Reduce the use of fuels at home, shortening bath time and cooking with covered containers.
Measures for industry and shops
- Industries with processes that generate ozone precursors should reduce 40% of their emissions.
- The “Miguel Hidalgo” refinery of Tula will operate at a maximum of 75% of its capacity.
- Fuelle consumption will be reduced in the “Francisco Pérez Ríos” thermoelectric plant by 30%.
- Industrial activities will be suspended that involve fugitive emissions of volatile organic compounds (COV).
- Businesses and services that use solvents or solid fuels without emission control must suspend operations.
- The operation of gas stations, carburation stations and LP gas distribution plants without vapor recovery systems will be limited by 20%.
- Boilers in shops and services will reduce their operation by 50% if they do not have emission control systems.
