The United States Government again vetoed Mexican cattle imports, after Mexican authorities reported a new case of a barelyer worm in Veracruz.
The US Department of Agriculture said that although it had announced a gradual port reopening strategy and based on the risk for livestock, bison and horses from Mexico from Monday, the new case generates a great concern about the information previously reported by Mexican officials and seriously compromises the schedule of ported repetition outline for five ports from July 7 to September 15.
“Therefore, to protect American cattle and the food supply of our nation, the secretary (Brooke) Rollins has ordered the closure of cattle trade through the southern entry ports with immediate effect,” the department said in a statement.
