A Federal Court of the United States blocked the entry of tariffs on the “day of the release” of President Donald Trump, by dictating that the president exceeded his authority by imposing generalized tariffs on imports from countries that sell more to the United States than they buy.
The International Court of Manhattan headquarters said that the United States Constitution grants the Congress exclusive powers to regulate trade with other countries that are not overcome by the president’s emergency powers to safeguard the US economy.
Lee: Trump says that he is not being cowing in the imposition of tariffs
The demand, presented by the non -partisan center Liberty Justice Center in the name of five small US companies that import goods from countries affected by tariffs, was the first important legal challenge to Trump’s tariffs.
Companies, ranging from an importer of New York wines and spirits to a manufacturer of educational kits and musical instruments based in Virginia, have said that tariffs will damage their ability to do business.
Demand is one of the seven judicial challenges to Trump’s tariff policies, together with challenges of 13 EU states and other groups of small businesses.
