The United States Embassy in Mexico denied Thursday that agents from that country collaborate in operations against drug trafficking in Mexican territory and assured that these accusations are “incorrect” and made outside “context” after the controversy by a photo published on their social networks.

In an informative note, sent to the journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva, who resumed the information about a dismantling of narcotorability in Sinaloa, in the west of the country, the embassy clarified that these actions were carried out but that the operation was headed by the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic (FGR).

“In that sense, I transcribe the corresponding extract: ‘Three large -scale synthetic drug production laboratories were dismantled in Sinaloa and narcotics and chemical precursors were seized in an operation led by an AIC team of the FGR, certified by ICE (immigration and customs control service) and HSI (National Security Research Office), with support of the (Secretariat of the) Semar (Marina Secretariat) ‘”, said the statement.

Given this, the US embassy rejected the suggestion that US special forces operate against criminal groups in Mexican territory, noting that these accusations “are incorrect and made out of context.”

The clarification occurs after during her morning press conference, the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, denied the reports that assured that the embassy had published a photograph where, supposedly, US agents were observed collaborating in the dismantling operation.

“It is false. That photograph that comes out on the front page of (newspaper) the day. It does not correspond to any operation in Mexico,” he emphasized.

He also recalled that from the six-year term of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) he legislated so that no foreigner could participate in some operation in Mexican territory and asked to clarify where the photograph had come from.

Drug trafficking has been a critical issue between Mexico and the United States since the arrival of Donald Trump to his second term, since the US ruler has increased pressure on Mexico, ensuring that it does not do enough to combat drug trafficking, especially fentanil.

Likewise, Washington included in the official terrorism list six drug groups in Mexico: the Jalisco Nueva Generación poster (CJNG), that of Sinaloa, of the Gulf, from the Northwest, the Michoacan family and the United posters.
