The judge who is in charge of the deportation of the Salvadoran migrant sent to a maximum security prison in El Salvador, despite having a legal status in the US, reproached on Tuesday that the US government “has not done anything” to facilitate its return and ordered an exhaustive investigation about its actions.

This was noted by Judge Paula Xinis, of the Maryland district, during an audience where she pointed out that in these inquiries on the executive’s performance, the officials involved must testify, according to the means present in court.

“As of today (…) nothing has been done,” said the judge. “I have asked reports to individuals with direct knowledge and I have received very little information that is worth it.”

The Salvadoran Kilmar Armando Ábrego García is one of the more than 200 migrants – mostly Venezuelans – who were expelled from the US on March 16 and sent to a Salvadoran high security prison without the possibility of appealing their cases before a court, what groups of defense of human rights have described as “forced disappearance”.

Although the EU Supreme issued a ruling by supporting an Xinis order that instructs the government to “facilitate” the return of the Salvadoran, both EU and El Salvador have refused to do so.

During a visit to the White House this week, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele refused to free Ábrego, calling him a terrorist and erroneously pointing out that bringing him back to EU would be illegal.

For its part, the Trump government has refused to give the court to the court, claiming that the agreement between San Salvador and Washington is “classified” and limited to informing that the 24 -year -old man is alive.

In this Tuesday’s view, Xinis instructed the government to respond to interrogations about the case and to deliver relevant documents, initially citing officials who have submitted jury testimonies in the case.

“I’m not going to tolerate games. (..) Cancel holidays or other appointments they have,” he told the executive’s lawyers.

The Salvadoran, who was arrested by immigration authorities in a traffic checkpoint, had a legal status in the US that protected him from deportation and is married to an American citizen.

Ábrego García resided in the state of Maryland, after fleeing from El Salvador for the extortion and threats that he and his family received from the Barrio 18 gang, according to judicial documents presented by his defense.

The US government reached an agreement with Bukele to send to migrants arrested in the US to the Center for Confinement of Terrorism (CECOT), a megaprision on which denunciations of abuses to human rights weigh.

As part of the treatment, of which specific details are not known, Washington will pay El Salvador six million dollars per year to sustain the prison system of the Central American country.
