The United States Government announced on Tuesday a reward of up to five million dollars for information that leads to the capture of Juan José Ponce Félix, aka ‘El Ruso’, a high command of the Sinaloa Cartel, an organization designated as a terrorist group by Washington.
According to the FBI, the Russian, who has several false identities and is also identified as Jesús Alexandro Sánchez Félix, leads the Russians, the armed arm of the Mayiza, a faction of the Sinaloa cartel.
During the last decade, he has been accused in multiple occasions in California for charges related to organized crime, drug trafficking, firearms and money laundering.
Donald Trump’s administration argues that Mayiza manages the production and traffic of fentanil, cocaine, marijuana, heroin and methamphetamine from northwestern Mexico to the United States.
The reward is part of the narcotics rewards program (NRP), administered by the State Department.
The Trump government has promoted an offensive against drug trafficking in Latin America with the aim of curbing the fentanyl crisis that seriously affects the United States.
The Republican President has designated the main Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations, as well as the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and the Venezuelan criminal group of Aragua.
In addition, Washington offers a reward of up to 50 million dollars for the capture of the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, whom he accuses of leading the so -called Los Soles Cartel, and has deployed military forces in the Caribbean in order to combat drug trafficking.
