The United States Department of Justice announced Thursday that it presented federal charges against a man for allegedly burning Tesla vehicles near a concessionaire of the company in Las Vegas (Nevada).

Paul Hyon Kim, 36, was accused of illegal possession of an unregistered firearm and fired fire, according to a statement from the department.

If they are convicted, the accused faces a maximum penalty of ten years in prison for the position of illegal possession of an unregistered firearm and a maximum sentence of 20 years for the position of fire caused.

“Anyone who participates in the wave of domestic terrorism directed against Tesla properties will suffer serious legal consequences. We will continue to find, stop and process these attackers until the lesson is learned,” said the United States attorney general, Pamela Bondi.

According to the Department of Justice, on March 18 the defendant used Molotov cocktails and an AR -type firearm to “damage and destroy” five Tesla vehicles and also painted the word ‘resist’ (resist) on the facade of the company building.

The forces of the order registered the residence of Hyon Kim, where they found several firearms, including an ar rifle similar to the firearm used in this incident, in addition to a black weapons belt with a bag and a small drop of pink paint waste.

In the detainee residence a note written was also found with what seemed to be an escape plan.

The vehicles, dealers and properties of Tesla have recently been white of attacks since its CEO, Elon Musk, was in charge of the Government Efficiency Department (Doge), responsible for cutting expenses and bureaucracy in the federal government by mandate of President Donald Trump.
