The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said in an interview with Fox News on Thursday that cooperation with Mexican authorities has improved and sees tangible results in migration, but that it is still necessary to work to reduce the flow of illegal drugs.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has used the threat of tariffs to press Mexico, its main commercial partner, to do more to stop drug trafficking and migrants that cross the shared border.

“We have seen a level of cooperation of the Mexican authorities that we had never seen in the past, but it is not enough,” said Rubio in an interview with Fox News.
Rubio said that although the number of migrants who illegally cross the United States by the southern border has decreased significantly, the amounts of drugs entering the country have not varied.
