Apple, Google and Microsoft are being questioned by the technological regulators of the European Union regarding the measures they are adopting to prevent their platforms from being used in financial scams, which reflects the growing concern in Europe for the cost of online fraud.

The EU is intensifying its scrutiny over the great American technological ones through the Digital Services Law, a historical regulation that forces these companies to strengthen their actions against the illegal and harmful content on their platforms.

“Today we send information requests, under the DSA, to Apple, Booking.com, Google and Microsoft on how they identify and manage the risks related to financial scams,” he wrote on Wednesday in X the European Commissioner of Technology, Henna Virkkunen.

“Today, online fraud can begin with great ease and, too often, cause economic losses to consumers,” he added.

These digital scams – which cover fraudulent banking hotels and bank applications to supplications of public figures to promote fictitious investments – cost Europeans more than 4 billion euros (4 thousand 700 million dollars) per year, according to Virkkunen.

Global regulators have also expressed their concern about the possibility that the rise of artificial intelligence increases consumer vulnerability to fraud schemes, such as phishing and investment scams.
