An explosion in the Nuevo Teapa-Salina Cruz pipeline, which runs through Loma Larga, Oaxaca, left three workers dead and at least four injured.

The oil company’s personnel carried out nitrogen injection work, according to a Pemex statement.

The oil company added that four people were taken to nearby hospitals.

“Pemex expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the colleagues who unfortunately died due to this incident. The company reiterates its solidarity and permanent support to the bereaved, to whom it will provide institutional support at all times,” he stated.

Governor Salomón Jara had reported six injured people on his social networks.

“I send my solidarity and my condolences to his family,” said the state president.

In a statement, the state Civil Protection Coordination detailed that the incident occurred during an ordinary process of cleaning and internal maintenance of pipes, “which would have eventually caused an explosion in the first instance and, subsequently, a fire on the property where the pumping station is located.”

The point of the explosion occurred in Loma Larga, in the municipality of El Barrio de la Soledad on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

Members of the Fire Department went to the scene of the events, who “continue security, risk mitigation and protection of the area,” the governor highlighted.
