Explosions were heard about the capital of Qatar, Doha, on Monday, a witness of Reutersshortly after a western diplomat said that there had been a credible Iranian threat against the Udeid Air Base, managed by the United States, in the Arab state of the Persian Gulf from noon.

The diplomat spoke shortly after Qatar announced that he had temporarily closed his airspace to guarantee the safety of residents and visitors. Previously, the United States embassy in Qatar had advised Americans to take refuge in the place, so he said it was “an excess of precaution.”

Iran has threatened to retaliate against the United States after American bombers launched 13.6 tons of the country’s underground nuclear facilities during the weekend, while President Donald Trump openly raised the possibility that the Iranian government is overthrown.

Earlier on Monday, Israel attacked a prison for political prisoners in Tehran, in a demonstration that it was expanding its objectives beyond military and nuclear sites to directly point to the pillars of the Iran ruling system.

Two American officials said that Washington evaluated that Iran could carry out attacks against US forces in the Middle East soon, although the United States is still looking for a diplomatic resolution that will make Tehran give up any retaliation.

Despite Iran’s threats to challenge oil shipments from the Gulf, oil prices remained stable largely, suggesting that operators doubt that the Islamic Republic will continue with any action that interrupts world supplies.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in Moscow, while Tehran sought the support of one of his last friends of great power for his next steps.
