In the recent Fantastic Four #9 – from Ryan North, Edgar Delgado, Humberto Ramos and Joe Caramagna – Sue Storm faces off against the Invincible Woman. The Invincible Woman is the Sue Storm from an alternate universe – a brutal killer with the exact same powers, but no morality to hold her back.

Confronting Sue, the Invincible Woman tries to force her to admit that her powers are designed for dealing death on the highest level, including bringing down Galactus. As part of the demonstration, she uses her force fields to compress a huge volume of air, creating a ball of super-heated plasma.

While Sue manages to save Reed Richards from the fiery attack, it’s now canon that her powers are capable of quickly and easily producing plasma.

What’s more, the Invincible Woman points out she has ALL the powers of the Fantastic Four – her force fields can reach further than Reed Richards’ stretching, can hit as hard as the Thing, and can now produce fire like the Human Torch.

This Isn’t Sue Storm’s Only New Power

While Sue Storm now knows how to produce superheated plasma, this is only the latest new ability for Sue that Ryan North has introduced in his Fantastic Four run. North is known for weaving real-life science into his superhero writing, and has taken a keen interest in the endless applications of the Invisible Woman being able to control light.

In recent comics, Sue has been able to sense changes in the electromagnetic spectrum, blot out the sun, and create constructs so sophisticated, they can operate as working vehicles including jets and trains.

Recently, Sue has created soundproof bubbles and even channeled her brother’s flame into a high-powered laser. She’s also been able to shapeshift light, creating a functioning ‘microscope’ from thin air and illuminating an underground cave system.

North’s Fantastic Four run has been incredibly ambitious in exploring the potential of the Fantastic Four’s powers, but for none moreso than Sue Storm. That decision is likely about to have huge repercussions for the entire Marvel Universe…

Marvel will soon publish Avengers: Armageddon – a new event that’s set to be the most important in decades, resetting the Avengers franchise as the heart of the Marvel Universe once again.

Marvel has teased the new roster will draw the biggest names from every corner of the universe, with Sue Storm shown on Dike Ruan and Moreno DiNisio’s cover alongside Iron Man, Wolverine, Spider-Man and other likely recruits.

With Invisible Woman’s new powers – and the extra abilities she now knows she’s capable of thanks to the Invincible Woman – it’s likely she’ll soon be operating as the Avengers’ biggest gun. For years, fans have argued that Fantastic Four’s Invisible Woman is secretly one of Marvel’s strongest heroes – now, the Avengers are seemingly making that official.

Fantastic Four #9 is available now from Marvel Comics, Avengers: Armageddon #1 is coming June 3.
