The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported the start of a trial against the father-in-law and brother-in-law of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, leader of Los Chapitos and son of drug trafficker Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán.
In a statement, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) “provided compelling evidence for the judge to link to the process” Mario Alfredo Lindoro -the brother-in-law-, also known as ‘El 7’, and Mario Lindoro Elenes -the father-in-law-, nicknamed ‘El Niño’.
In addition, the judge ratified the informal preventive detention measure, issued on Friday against both, and established three months for the complementary investigation of the case.
Mario ‘N’ (father-in-law) is charged with “the probable commission of crimes against health in the form of simple possession of methamphetamine hydrochloride, possession of a firearm, and operations with resources of illicit origin,” said the FGR.

Meanwhile, Mario Alfredo ‘N’ (brother-in-law) is accused of the same crimes, in addition to the sale of fentanyl.
Finally, the Prosecutor’s Office specified that both subjects “are presumed innocent, as long as there is no conviction issued by the competent judicial authority.”
The defendants were arrested on December 24 in Jalisco, and later, they were transferred to the Puente Grande prison, located in that state.
Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, leader of Los Chapitos along with three of his brothers, is one of the priority targets of the United States government, where he faces federal charges for drug trafficking and conspiracy to traffic fentanyl.
Los Chapitos is a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the six Mexican cartels that the United States designated as terrorist in February, along with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the Northeast, the Gulf, the United Cartels and the New Mexican Family.
