Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña confirmed that he requested leave from the Upper House for 12 days for a trip he will make to Palestine this week.

“I’m leaving this Wednesday, tomorrow night, and I’ll be back on November 2,” he reported at a press conference.

Since yesterday when he reported that he would ask for leave, there was speculation about whether it was due to the controversy in which he has been involved in recent weeks, due to his travels and his home in Tepoztlán, however, he clarified that it is only due to the trip to the Middle East.

“I decided, I could not have asked for a leave, simply had the absences, but first, it is the right thing to do, and since there is an absolute observation on my legislative work and the trip is not compatible with attending the sessions of the Senate, I decided to present this leave,” he revealed.

Fernández Noroña reported that the United Arab Emirates is the one who will pay for his plane ticket.

“The United Arab Emirates pays for the plane ticket because of the solidarity that I have had with Palestine. It is a trip that I had delayed. Here I taught, I believe, at some point when I presided over the board of directors of the Chamber of Senators, the invitation to visit Palestine. However, it had not been possible to go,” he added.

The legislator pointed out that he will travel to Palestine because the ceasefire has not been fulfilled, “because the genocide of the Palestinian people continues, given that the blockade on food aid has returned and the situation is very serious,” he said.
