The president of the Senate Board of Directors, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, announced that next week this Chamber will present challenges before the Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF) against candidates for the Judiciary suspected of having links with organized crime, according to a note of the process website.
According to the Morenista senator, he has identified about twenty judges who, systematically, have granted amparos to free drug traffickers, which calls into question his suitability to occupy key positions in the judicial system.
At a press conference, Fernández Noroña stressed the importance of purifying the process of selecting judges to guarantee the integrity of the Judiciary, discarding that the challenges respond to whims, personal vetoes or political motifs.

“If we already know that there are people, some, who are not suitable, let’s withdraw them, and remove that debate and that disqualification, or that legitimate concern that there are people who are not ideal. That seems to me that we are in good weather,” he said.
Coordinated with the president of the Political Coordination Board, the Senate prepares a legal strategy that, according to the senator, will be presented at the right time to avoid electoral controversies.
For now, the names of the judges indicated are kept in reserve, since disseminating them could be interpreted as a call not to vote for them, which would violate the electoral law.
“I am not going to give names, that is, because if I give names they will say that I am calling not to vote for those people and, therefore, I am violating the law, but if we go to their time, the people that we have challenged will be known, explained Fernández Noroña ensuring that the details will be known once the challenges are formalized.
