The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported this Tuesday that it concluded the autopsies of the 13 people who died after the derailment of a train on the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in Oaxaca.

In a statement, the FGR detailed that the progress of the first expert and ministerial proceedings allowed “to conclude the practice of the corresponding autopsies,” and reiterated that “different immediate actions have been carried out with the aim of clarifying the facts as soon as possible,” as well as “prioritizing the repair of damage to the victims.”

Without giving more details about the fatalities, the FGR assured that as part of the progress, “a documentary review is also carried out and field work continues, under the command of the Federal Public Ministry, ministerial and expert police personnel, who carry out their intervention to conclude the inspections of the place and the railway units.”

The document stressed that the staff continues to conduct interviews with “various members of the crew,” whose legal status is unknown.

And he highlighted that due diligence is being carried out “relative to the black box, known as ‘pulser’”, a device on the locomotive involved in the accident.

In addition, he specified that the investigations into the derailment of the Transisthmian train – which caused the death of 13 people and left 98 injured – are being carried out in coordination with the state prosecutor’s office and federal authorities.

Some are the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), the Regulatory Agency for Railway Transportation, the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) and the Executive Commission for Attention to Victims (CEAV).

He also mentioned that agents from the Federal Public Ministry, federal ministerial police and experts from the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) remain in the area in 13 specialties, such as photography and forensic medicine, field criminology, civil engineering and architecture, chemistry and forensic industrial security, among others.

Following the consequences of this accident that keeps 36 people hospitalized, President Claudia Sheinbaum guaranteed this Tuesday morning that her government will carry out a “comprehensive repair” of the damage to the victims and their families.
