The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) is hurt by the exclusion of the Lion of the next Club World Cup, said the president of the institution, Ivar Sisniega on Thursday.

“As Mexican and president of the Mexican Federation, we are hurting not to participate a club that won his place for being champion of the Concacaf. It was difficult to foresee when Leon won his place in 2023 that the other team of the group, El Pachuca, also obtained the ticket,” explained the manager at a press conference.

Last Tuesday, the sports arbitration court (TAS, for its acronym in French) rejected the appeal of the lion and confirmed his expulsion from the Club World Cup, for not providing sufficient evidence to verify that he does not share the owner with the Pachuca, another of the participants.

“We have to be respectful of FIFA decisions, because it is the one that summons and makes the rules of the Club World Cup. In the FMF assemblies, the vast majority of the owners agreed to eliminate multipropiety,” Sisniega added.

Since the lion could not lay down the FIFA decision to leave it out of the tournament, which will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025, American America and Los Angeles FC FC will be played soon in a match the last of the 32 tickets to the contest.

Sisniega announced that for the FMF, the priority is that the Mexican clubs that will participate in the World Cup, Monterrey, Pachuca and possibly America, go with their best players to represent the country’s league.

These means that Javier Aguirre, Mexican coach, will not convene for the Gold Cup, which will be held on the same dates, to footballers who will participate in the championship, the first to be taken with 32 sets.

“The priority is the Club World Cup. Javier Aguirre and his coaching staff are already aware. The team will not summon players who participate in the Club World Cup,” said Sisniega.
