Forbes Factor arrives, our look at the sports business

At Forbes México we believe that everything can be seen and analyzed under what I like to call the “Forbes look”.

In a recent interview, Steve Forbes, editor-in-chief of Forbes US and grandson of the brand’s founder, defined our mission this way: “To provide entrepreneurs and people who want to improve their lives with the information and analysis they need to grow. This means collecting and presenting information correctly and finding successful people who can serve as role models.”

At Forbes we tell the story of the people who take the reins of business and understand success not only as a way to generate wealth but also to improve people’s lives.

In that effort, the Forbes gaze has been applied to some industries more than others, we have put the lens on certain types of businesses more than others, perhaps out of familiarity, perhaps out of habit or inertia.

But, in reality, everything can be seen and analyzed as a business. The entertainment industry and the video game industry, to give just a couple of examples, have been experiencing sustained growth in recent years, and their weight is not measured in billions of dollars but also in cultural impact.

Something similar happens with the sports industry. A recent report by Statista indicates that by 2025, the global sports market projects annual revenues of $79.93 billion. While the average growth rate projected between 2025-2030 is 4.47%. That is, by 2030, it is estimated that these revenues will reach $99.48 billion.

The sports business is no longer child’s play. And with the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held for the first time in three countries, including Mexico, the world is turning its attention to the very interesting moment that our country is experiencing as one of the main venues for major sporting events.

For all these reasons, today we are launching Factor Forbes, whose first season is titled, precisely, “The Business of Sports.” Space where I will have the pleasure of talking with several of the men and women responsible for making Mexico today a global benchmark in the sports industry.

For the first episode, I had the opportunity to talk with Raúl Zárraga, Senior Vice President and Head of Operations at NBA Latam, the doors of the long-awaited NBA Game Mexico City, which year after year celebrates the most important basketball league in the world in Mexico City. I hope you enjoy it.
