The formal employment record in Mexico had its weakest January since 2021, according to IMSS data published on Wednesday.

The institution reported the affiliation of 73,167 jobs last month, of which 63,704 were eventual and the permanent rest.

It is the first time that the registration for a January drops from the 100,000 positions since 2021.

In December more than 405,259 formal jobs were eliminated, the highest figure for that month since the IMSS has registration.

With the January data, the universe of formal jobs in the country was 22 million 311,546, of which 86.8% were permanent and the rest eventual, according to a statement from the agency.

At the end of last month, the average contribution base salary of the jobs was 617.6 pesos, an annual nominal increase of 7.7%, according to the IMSS.

Patterns registration falls

At the end of January, the IMSS had registered to one million 49,430 patterns, a 2% annual drop.

Although IMSS is the main indicator of formal work in Mexico, analysts argue that it presents a partial portrait because in the country almost 55% of the workforce is informal, according to INEGI, which places the unemployment rate at 2.6%, near the Historical minimum.
