The Mexican economy lost 46,378 formal jobs in June, which spoke three months with losses of jobs, according to IMSS data published this Friday.

Without counting on the destruction of 2020 for the COVID-19, it is the greatest contraction for a June since the IMSS has been recorded (at least since 2004, according to its communications).

In May, 45,624 positions were lost and in April 47,442, the latter that the IMSS justified by the Easter Calendar effect, since this year the holiday period fell in that month.

The data published Friday by the Institute adds information about the weakness that the Mexican economy is going through this year, in the midst of federal government pressure to reduce its fiscal deficit and protectionist commercial policies of the Donald Trump administration.

In the first half of the year, the IMSS affiliation was 87,287 positions. Without counting the extraordinary losses of 2020 and 2009 due to health contingencies, the data of 2025 is the weakest for a first semester since the Institute has been recorded.

The total universe of IMSS affiliates to June was 22 million 325,666, of which 87.5% were permanent and the rest.

Less employers

The IMSS added that as of June 30, one million 41,636 employer records had registered, a negative annual rate of 2.9%.
