As a commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission, Mozelle Thompson was tasked with policing the business practices of the country’s moneyed elite. Now, he’s living with them.

Thompson, who worked at the FTC from 1997 to 2004, purchased a West Village maisonette for $17.2 million, according to property records.

The home is one of seven townhouses with access to the condo building at 400 West 12th Street, which was developed by Related Companies at the site of the former Superior Ink Factory.

The townhome previously sold for $11.5 million in 2010. Compass’ Dante Iraola, Ian Slater and Michael Koeneke of Trove Partners had the listing, which hit the market in April asking $18 million.

Spanning over 26 feet wide and designed by Robert A.M. Stern, the home, which also has an address on 66 Bethune Street, comes with five bedrooms and four full bathrooms. An elevator services each of the home’s four floors.

The garden level holds the chef’s kitchen, along with a gas fireplace and access to the back garden with a water feature. The parlor level, which has a wood-burning fireplace, also provides access to the garden.

The primary suite comes with a bedroom-sized walk-in closet and a five-piece marble bathroom with heated floors, a soaking tub and water closet.

The townhouse also receives access to the condo building’s amenities, which include a garage, gym, children’s playroom, bike storage, and live-in super.

The development has counted a number of famous residents since sales launched in 2007, including actress Hilary Swank, fashion designer Marc Jacobs, NASCAR star Jimmie Johnson and internet billionaire Mark Shuttleworth.

Related founder Stephen Ross picked up a unit in 2010. The property’s offering plan listed the unit’s asking price at around $5 million, but the billionaire developer acquired the title for free. He listed the unit in April for just under $7 million after his move to Palm Beach in 2020.

In June, Broadway producer Jordan Roth, the son of Vornado Realty Trust’s CEO Steven Roth, and his husband sold their unit in the building for $19.3 million after combining two units on the 15th floor.
