The former municipal president of Zinapécuaro, Alejandro Correa Gómez, was found alive this Thursday after four days of being reported missing, according to the Michoacán prosecutor’s office.

Correa Gómez had been missing since November 2, when he was last seen in the community of Tierras Coloradas, municipality of Hidalgo, Michoacán, according to the official search file released by the prosecutor’s office, which stated that there were fears for his integrity due to the possibility that he was the victim of a crime.

At the moment, the reason for the disappearance of the former mayor and the specific place where he was found are unknown.

Correa Gómez, 41 years old, was municipal president of Zinapécuaro, between 2018 and 2021, championed by Morena.

The former official was disappeared one day after the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, on the night of November 1 after a public event for the Day of the Dead, a crime that has shocked the country and has highlighted the upsurge of violence that Michoacán is experiencing.

According to state records and reports, since October 1, when Claudia Sheinbaum assumed the presidency of Mexico, and until November 3, at least 10 mayors or municipal presidents have been murdered in the country.
