The Spanish Alberto Longo, co-founder and director of Formula E, assured that the electric single-seater circuit he heads has 7 million fans in Mexico.

“Mexico City is an important capital of a country of more than 120 million inhabitants. The entire championship ecosystem marks the date in Mexico as one of the big dates of the season because we have more than 7 million fans here; Coming here is coming home,” he explained in a press conference.

Mexico will receive its ninth E-Prix this Saturday, which is at risk because the organizers expect more support from the local government. Longo stated that his intention is to resolve the problems and continue with the event at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City.

“We have not spoken with the new government of Mexico because now I am sure that it has other more important priorities than car races. I know that on Saturday some authorities will come racing because we have made invitations and they have responded positively. We hope to sit down and talk because Formula E’s desire is to stay in Mexico for as many years as we can.”

Formula E in Mexico manages to sell almost all its tickets

Regarding the E-Prix on Saturday, the Iberian businessman revealed that they are close to selling all the tickets since the survey they did last year showed that 93% of those attending the 2024 race assured that they would return in 2025.

The Mexico City E-Prix will be the second of this Formula E season, which began last December 7 with the victory of New Zealander Mitch Evans, from Jaguar.
