The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, reported the capture of a second person allegedly linked to the murder of the lemon leader in Michoacán, Bernardo Bravo, according to information from the Quadratín México agency.
During his appearance before the Senate, the official assured that the operations of the federal forces will continue in the region.
“The actions of the Security Cabinet in coordination with the Michoacán authorities are going to intensify until all those responsible for this and other homicides recorded in the area are arrested,” he stated.
Bernardo Bravo was found dead on Monday with a gunshot wound to the face and signs of violence, weeks after publicly denouncing the wave of extortion and attacks faced by citrus producers in the state.
García Harfuch defended the national security strategy promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum, and assured that the results of her first year in office demonstrate concrete progress in the pacification of the country.

“I come to report with concrete data the actions carried out and the results achieved to guarantee peace, justice and tranquility in the country with the certainty that the security strategy is moving on the right path,” said Harfuch during his speech in the gloss of the first government report.
Among the most relevant results cited by the secretary is the arrest of 35,817 people for high-impact crimes, the seizure of 18,270 firearms and 288 tons of drugs, including nearly 4 million fentanyl pills, as well as the destruction of 1,597 methamphetamine laboratories in 22 entities in the country.
In addition, a 46% reduction in the average daily crime rate was reported since January 2018, with decreases of up to 62% in homicides in some states.
The official emphasized international coordination and with the United States to combat drug and weapons trafficking, as well as the importance of a safe prison system and social reintegration policies.
“The peace of the nation is a responsibility of the State and we are going to fulfill it. Only with unity, perseverance and determination will we consolidate the transformation of public security and guarantee with actions the tranquility and lasting peace that the people of Mexico demand,” García Harfuch concluded.
