The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, said that General Motors will not transfer his production outside of Mexico, although he revealed that he will make adjustments in his production in the United States amid uncertainty for possible tariffs from Washington.

Ebrard commented thus the announcement of Mary Barra, president and CEO of General Motors, that he could transfer part of his production of the vehicles that he currently manufactures in Mexico and Canada to the United States if President Donald Trump imposes tariffs on these two neighboring countries.

“No one is going to go from Mexico, because the most productive plants have them here; It would be very expensive, ”he said during the 85 annual assembly of the American Society (AMSOC) of Mexico, which groups American businessmen with businesses in the country.

Ebrard stressed that General Motors will take advantage of inactive capabilities in the US, but without abandoning its operations in Mexico.

“They will take advantage of the capacity they do not have used in the United States,” said the official, after noting that he had recently made a work visit to the General Motors headquarters in Detroit.

These statements arise in the midst of Trump’s threats, to impose 25% tariffs on Mexican imports, while stating their intention to transfer the manufacturing production of Mexico to the US, seeking to strengthen the national industry.
