EFE.- German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck accused American tycoon Elon Musk of carrying out a frontal attack on German democracy with his open support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).
“The combination of enormous wealth, control over information and networks, the use of artificial intelligence with the desire to circumvent rules is a frontal attack on our democracy,” Habeck said in an interview with Der Spiegel magazine.
Musk recently expressed his support for AfD first through his social network X and then in an article published by the ultraconservative newspaper “Die Welt” accompanied by a reply.
“The richest man in the world, owner of one of the most influential communication platforms, openly supports a party that is partly far-right,” Habeck said.
The AfD has been declared by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a partly far-right party and some of its leaders as openly far-right.

“We should not make the mistake of downplaying it as we have downplayed other warnings in the past. He who seems very casual and manufactures electric cars should not deceive us,” he added.
The publication of Musk’s article in “Die Welt” has been harshly criticized in the German media and even within the newspaper’s own editorial staff. The person in charge of the newspaper’s opinion page, Eva Maria Kogel, not only expressed her disagreement but also presented her resignation.
Musk has not limited himself to expressing his support for the AfD but has also uttered insults against the German president, Frank Walter Steinmeier, whom he called an “undemocratic tyrant” for having warned against attempts to manipulate the German elections through X.
