Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani died, the company said Thursday.
“With infinite regret, the Armani group announces the death of its creator, founder and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani,” said the fashion house in a statement.
Armani, 91, was synonymous with modern Italian style and elegance. He combined the designer’s talent with the insight of a businessman, directing a company that billed about 2.3 billion euros (2.7 billion dollars) a year.
He was sick for some time and was forced to leave his group’s parades at Milan Male Fashion Week in June, the first time in his career that one of his catwalk events was lost.
Known as “Re Giorgio” – Rey Giorgio – The designer was famous for supervising every detail of his collection and every aspect of his business, from advertising to fix the hair of the models while going to the catwalk.
